Update: Several details on this page have been edited.

This is what I've been up to, among a couple of other university projects. This page actually isn't finished. We have to do the typography by hand and I've decided that I'm going to put mine in afterwards. This comic is completely wordless apart from the type for the sounds. It is 25 pages long (once it's finished). It'll be printed as an A5 book when done.

I'm sorry for being so inactive and for replying to everything so late. I have a 2 to 4 week 'holiday' coming up towards the end of march for easter so maybe... just maybe, I'll have something proper to upload then. But it is a long while away :( It makes me feel sad.

Hmm...the painting us very good, there is no denying that but there is a lot more you could do with the typography. Perhaps looking at some fine art-graffiti work could be good research. Sorry, not trying to be negative just suggesting something.

Great work :).

Don't worry, the digital type is only temporary, I have to hand draw the type. I'm just going to do it at the end when I've finished painting ;) Thanks for the suggestion though!

Aww man that sounds epic! I love hand generating type as it can take so many forms. Can't wait to see the end product :).

Personally I hate it ^^; but that's because I'm not used to it, and the artists our tutors use as examples really aren't that good at combining typography with illustration imo -.-'' but yesh :3 They will be simple black and white like this, but will be more detailed etc.

When I had my first typography lesson I loathed it but after a while I began to become addicted to illustrated type and adding it to imagery. A good idea would to make the composition of your illustration take into account the placement of type as this would be the norm if you were making a poster or book cover.

There are plenty of good examples of combined type and image on DA and on the web, just get down to some solid researching.

I try to do just that, I hate type on artwork normally. It reminds me of the cheap gifs and memes people throw together and it destroys the artwork -.- Which is why typography is cool because it becomes a part of the artwork but can still be a stand alone thing.

Yes that is very true. Good typography is an art form in itself and one that is kinda tricky to get the hang of especailly when combining it with imagery. I am always humbled by the way that graffiti artists seem to manage it and make it so amazing to look at.

I know what you mean! I've been doing spray painting recently because me and about 12 other people are going to be painting a mural on a warehouse (legally of course) at the end of summer, so I've been practising. Graffiti artists really do make it look so easy, but its extremely difficult to get the hang of (like most arts at first) and the typography is amazing. I never realised how difficult type was until we did this typography segment at uni, so overall I have a very high respect for graffiti artists now to say that they are painting on property that doesn't belong to them =P
